In this mini tutorial, I show how to transform View A into View C of the Modern Marquise Skirt by working with the hem line only, without changing the main construction of the pattern.
This approach focuses on reshaping the hem and drafting a new hem facing, while keeping the original fit and balance of the skirt intact.

This tutorial can also be helpful if View C is not included in your size range, as it shows how to recreate the asymmetric hem starting from View A.

These images are meant to make the adjustment process clearer and easier to follow while working with the pattern.
All measurements are shown directly on the pattern with seam allowances included, as demonstrated in the video.

Video breakdown (text version)
- View A → View C Asymmetric hem transformation
- We work only with the hem line. The construction stays unchanged.
- All measurements are taken from the hip line.
- Mark the lengths and draw the hem as a straight line.
- Only two main fabric pieces are modified. The front pleated piece stays unchanged (same as View A).
- Apply the same logic to the lining.
- All lengths already include hem allowances. Cut exactly along the marked lines.
- Exception: On one lining piece, the hip line is not marked. In this case, measure from the top edge (allowances included).

- The original hem facing is for View A. View C needs a new one.
- Trace the new hem line. Mark 5 cm up from the bottom edge.
- On the front pieces: Start from the inner guideline, mark 5 cm up from that line and add 1 cm outward (hem allowance).
- At the side seams: Work along the actual seam lines, not the allowance edges.
- Repeat the same steps for the back piece. Transfer the grain line from the skirt to the hem facing.
- Repeat the same logic for the pleated front piece.
- Use tracing paper to transfer the drafted facing sections.
- Align side seams and tape the sections together to create one continuous hem facing.
- If needed, the facing can be split at side seams for more efficient fabric layout.
- This is the wrong side. The facing is cut as a mirror image.
- All pieces are ready. ❤️

Notes on the method
In the video, measurements are marked directly on the pattern for clarity and ease of use.
💡Advanced sewists may prefer to mark all lengths along the seam lines instead of the seam allowances for maximum accuracy — both approaches follow the same logic.
This method can be applied to all sizes of the Modern Marquise Skirt and allows you to customise the hem shape while working with the existing pattern pieces.
I hope this tutorial helps you adapt the pattern with confidence.
